Obituary

Richard Guy Pomeroy
May 31, 1924 – Feb 21, 2019

Richard Guy Pomeroy was born in Fremont Iowa to Orle J. Pomeroy and Millicent M. Pomeroy. He had 1 sister Margaret J. Pomeroy (Darland). He enlisted in the United States Navy in November, 1942 and rose to the rank of First Lieutenant and Executive Officer on the PCE (Patrol Convoy Escort) 844. While in the service, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia, 1946. He transferred from active service to the reserves in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Richard met Letha Faye Davis when she was working as a bank teller in Ottumwa, Iowa. They were married on Feb 20th, 1949. He and Letha had three sons; Robert Davis Pomeroy (1953), Richard Orle Pomeroy (1955) and Roger Allen Pomeroy (1957).

After his marriage he found work winding armatures for General Electric Locomotive division but went on to get his Aircraft Airframe and Power certification and went to work for United Airlines in Los Angeles and then Denver. He continued his education and was hired by Martin Marietta Corp on the test stands and progressed to become a fluids and propulsion engineer.

Richard retired in 1988 and he and Letha spent a number of years traveling in a 5th wheel trailer touring the United States, Canada and Alaska. Richard always loved doing mechanic work with his hands and there was always an old Jeep that required repair on the weekend. His greatest love was fishing and being out camping. He enjoyed many backpacking trips with friends and his sons seeking great fishing spots. This love of the outdoors and fishing was instilled in all three of his sons and continues on in his grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Letha. He is survived by his three sons and their wives: Robert (Cheri), Rick (Kristi) and Roger (Jane) Pomeroy. Grand children include Zach (Brenda), Matt (Angie), Tyler, Samatha, Eric and Aaron Pomeroy. Great grandchildren include Ryan, Aidan, Ethan, Jackson and Freya Pomeroy.
