On June 15, 2019, the earthly journey of Bessie Jeannette Martinez came to an end. Faith sustained her throughout her life. Her devotion and love for her children never wavered. Her journey now continues with our saviour.

Bessie will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a compassionate friend who possessed strength, common sense, and a love of life that she taught to all of her children.

Bessie was born in Saint Louis, Missouri May 12, 1933 to Marion (Mac) Turley and Jeanette M Newman. After living her early years in Lincoln Nebraska, she moved to Colorado. Upon graduating from Junior College with a bachelor’s degree she became an insurance underwriter for Gates Stone and Company. She was honored to have been appointed the secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary chapter of Commerce City, Colorado. She was an active member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church for over 55 years.

The family was the most important aspect of Bessie’s life. Her greatest joy was to have raised her four sons, Mark, Bill, Ralph and Scott as well as her two daughters, Margaret and Elizabeth. Her grandchildren: Jessica, Marlon, Stephanie, Anthony and Bonica, and her great grandchildren were her pride. Most importantly she inspired her friends and family to find the good in everyone. Bessie always spoke her mind with compassion, kindness and understanding.

Bessie is survived by her Brother Eugene Turley of Arizona.
Her 5 children:
Mark H. Kaltenborn (Olena Turkalo) of Florida.
Ralph H. Kaltenborn of Colorado.
Margaret J. Kaltenborn-Bynon (James F. Bynon) of North Carolina
Scott H. Kaltenborn (Marilyn K. Bumgarner) of Colorado
Elizabeth A. Martinez-Davis (La-Zaries Davis) of Colorado
Her 5 grandchildren:
Jessica J. Hood (Joshua L. Hood) of North Carolina
Stephanie L Petrikat (Sebastian) of Colorado
Marlon H. Kaltenborn of New York
Anthony J. Duran (Stephani Duran) of Florida
Bonica A. Duran-Wise (Jason Wise) of Arizona
Many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, William H. Kaltenborn, parents, Marion (Mac) Turley and Jeanette M. Newman, husbands Ronald H. Kaltenborn and Emmett Martinez, and brother Charles Turley.

I sure am going to miss my Grammy, but am so thankful for all of the wonderful and exciting adventures we had. Traveling across the US, rescuing animals, going to the salon to get our hair done, Easter dresses, church, going to the American Legion, doing odd jobs together, and cuddling in bed while she read books to me. Grandma Bessie helped take care of me at times when I was little. She taught me a lot of good lessons, compassion for animals, and made sure to spoil me often. I love you so much and will see you in heaven one day. Rest in peace, Grammy.

Mom was a strong independent woman that allowed her children to learn by trial and error. She taught us to solve problems and pick a better path next time. She would take us on trips all over the USA and teach us as we went along. She has made me what I am and I'm so grateful for that. I will love you forever Mom. Rest in peace. Love you more than you will ever know. Love Margaret
