Carmelita was born on August 21, 1950 in Angadanan, Isabela to the late Benjamin S. Marcos and Felicidad Marcos. She was the first of 5 children. She graduated from Angadanan Vocational High School and Northeastern Foundation College in Santiago, Isabela with a degree in teaching. As a college student, she was most sought-after because of her beauty. She was on many occasions chosen as a muse or a beauty queen. The man who won her heart was Esteban “Epeng” Sy Claravall of Angadanan, Isabela. Over a short period of time, the couple welcomed five children into their home. Her children remember her as a gentle but driven mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. She wanted only the best for her children. Overcoming financial hardships, she and her husband were able to support their children through college in their chosen field: nursing, medical technology, mechanical engineering, architecture, and computer science. She retired from the Department of Education after having taught in various schools in the San Guillermo and Angadanan East districts. She was a multi-awarded Master Teacher and Scout Leader. She was a graceful dancer and an entertaining singer. Her friends fondly remember her for her cheerful disposition and incredible generosity to others.
After retirement, she migrated to the United States together with her husband to live with their oldest daughter and her family in Colorado. She had a life well lived making frequent visits back to her home country while celebrating with family and new friends in the second home.
