David Lawrence Dotson, of Arvada, CO, passed away peacefully on February 13th, after a 6-month battle with cancer.
Born on June 8, 1937 in Laramie, Wyoming, David was the third of five children to Jacob Francis Dotson and Katherine Margaret Heid.
Dave was a superior athlete and State Champion wrestler who later studied and competed at the University of Wyoming.
He left Laramie when he and his wife Beverly (Beagle) started a family and lived in Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA and Colorado Springs, CO before settling in Westminster, CO where they raised their five children.
Dave worked as a machinist for over 19 years at the Sundstrand Corporation, where he met his second wife, Donna Aragon. They married in 1993 and the addition of Donna’s children and grandchildren further enriched Dave’s life. Dave and Donna eventually settled in Arvada, Colorado.
There wasn’t a televised sport that Dave didn’t enjoy and he continued to root for his Wyoming Cowboys despite other familial affiliations to Colorado State. He golfed until he couldn’t, read Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour Westerns, played endless games of cards and cribbage and enjoyed fishing in the mountains with Donna and his children most of all.
You can’t take the Wyoming out of the man and the foolish souls who ran afoul of Dave’s moral compass were often put right by his unusually large and effective fists.
Dave was a master storyteller. His youthful hijinks and mischief in Laramie, usually in the company of his brother Mike, provided endless material for the tales that entertained his children, grandchildren and friends until his final days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Patrick, Michael and Thomas and sister Carolyn.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Donna, along with his five children and two step-children: daughters Jennifer Loucks and husband Brett of Arvada, CO and their children: Hillary (Jason), Chris (Lindsay), Kelsey (Tony); Jeanette Wayne of Brevard, NC and her children Emmaline, Chloe, and Benjamin; Julianne Pellien of Arvada, CO and her children: Clarissa, Samuel, and Abigail; Jeannine Pope and husband Rob of Durango, CO and their children Sally and Jimmy; son David Dotson and wife Chris of Broomfield, CO and their children Avery and Addison; Stepdaughter Colleen Reed and husband Brian of Arvada, CO and their children Sunnie (Gene), Luke and Jake; and stepson Clint Aragon and wife Helen of Thornton, CO and their two children Monica and Ernesto.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, his children, his 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren (Tanner, Emma and Brady Loucks; August Thompson; Roman, Annabelle and Lily Reed).
He is also survived by his former wife Beverly (Beagle) Dotson of Thornton, CO; nieces Debbie Dotson, Patti Ertel, Tami Armstrong, Melisa Helbling, and Casey Marsh; nephews Jim Dotson and Scot Dotson; his many cousins including Larry Heid, Anne Kouba, Dennis Heid, Bob Heid, JoAnne Davis, Don Lee, Mary Cunningham Williams, Paula Cunningham Borden, Steve Borden, Mary Borden Swan, Carl Borden, MaryLou Holman and Martha Borden Kramer; as well as his dear friends and former classmates from Laramie (by whom he was affectionately known as Dote).
A viewing and service will be held on Friday, February 22nd at 11:30 a.m. at Aspen Mortuary, 6370 Union Street, Arvada, CO 80004. Reception to follow.
Donations in his memory can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or The American Cancer Society.

Dave was a one of a kind. He was a true friend for over 70 years. He was a schoolmate, teammate and friend who had your back and would give you the shirt of his back. As a young man, he was a great athlete and as an adult he was accomplished , hard working and a true family man. We will all miss Dave greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his large family. Heaven will have a special place for Dave. Rest in Peace.
