Obituary

Obituary for Dennis George Burger

Dennis George Burger of Arvada, Colorado departed this life on Friday, November 6, 2020, due to complications from lung cancer. He was 79 years old.

Dennis was born in Denver, Colorado to George and Blanche (Engleman) Burger in 1941. He attended North High School, graduating in 1959. He graduated from the University of Colorado - Boulder with dual degrees in Pharmacy and Business in 1965. Shortly after graduating from pharmacy school, Dennis began his career as a pharmacist with Walgreens, working in Colorado Springs, Thornton, and Arvada, Colorado. He retired in 2000 after over 35 years with the company.

Dennis was a longtime member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Westminster, Colorado, and its sister location SVLC-Candelas.

Nothing was more important to Dennis than his faith and his family. He and his wife Sandy were married for 52 years. He was a devoted father, was happiest spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events, or playing a game on the IPad. He loved being with friends and family, and could always be convinced to join in a card game (even if he really should have been going to bed). Dennis’s sense of humor was unmatched and he made friends wherever he went, turning even simple interactions into lasting friendships. As a pharmacist, Dennis approached his work with humor and compassion, and years after his retirement, former customers would recognize Dennis wherever he went. His family loved Dennis so much and will miss him always.

Dennis is survived by his wife Sandy Burger of Arvada, Colorado; brother Douglas Burger (Kay Cook) of Boulder, Colorado; son Eric (Erica) Burger of Portland, Oregon; daughter Andrea (Ben) Auten of Arvada, Colorado; daughter Elizabeth (Michael) Dohr of Denver, Colorado, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donations can be made in Dennis’s memory to the SVLC-Candelas Building Fund at https://www.svlcandelas.org/ or to the American Lung Association at https://www.lung.org/.
