Obituary for E. Rustin Rustin Myers

E. Rustin Myers, 65, of Arvada, CO passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020.
Rustin was born in Houston, TX to Lloyd and Patricia Myers on July 3, 1954. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1973 and immigrated to Canada in 1975. There he met and married the love of his life, Kathleen Ann Rutherford, on January 12, 1980 at Blueberry Farm, BC. Rustin learned to adapt to the rigors of the northern winters though he never became truly at home. He was thrilled to return to Houston, TX in November of 1985 with his wife and baby son, Timothy, who was born in 1983. Rustin began working for the Grocers’ Supply Co. of Houston in 1988 where he built a successful printing department. His daughter, Melissa, was born in 1991.
Rustin loved to sing and teach in lay ministry at Spring Branch Community Church and later at Bridgepoint Bible Church. His Sunday school class, “Growing in Grace” was a place of discovery, challenging questions, and fun. Rustin enjoyed writing original music and lyrics. His songs are loved all over the world. His other hobby was fishing, and he was embracing the wonder of fly fishing in Colorado after retiring from Houston Independent School District in July of 2019.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Kathleen Myers, son Tim Myers, daughter-in-law Kim Myers, and three grandchildren: Charlie Myers, Jackson Myers, and Rosemary Myers of Golden, CO., daughter Melissa Sparks, son-in-law Morgan Spark of West Lafayette, IN. He is also survived by brother Stephan Myers and sister-in-law Jan Myers of Brookeland, TX, sister Debbie Timmerman and brother-in-law Terry Timmerman of Houston TX, brother-in law Ken Rutherford and sister-in-law Mary Rutherford of Charlie Lake, BC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Patricia Myers, and in-laws Donald and Dorothy Rutherford,
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests donations to Faith Christian Academy of Arvada, CO. The family plans to hold a celebration of Rustin’s life sometime in the future

We have wonderful memories of Rustin - his quick wit, deep dedication to teaching Sunday School like a lay pastor, his tender & responsible love as a father and husband.
