Elaine Lou Dopheide Fagerquist, Daughter to Lou and Hazel Dopheide, Sister to Donald Dopheide. She was an incredible person at all levels throughout her life. Those that knew her well, experienced first hand her “zest for life.” While a senior at North High she and her teammates of the Denver Ambrose won the right to travel to Cleveland, Ohio to play in the National Women’s Softball Tournament. Elaine was chosen by Fort Logan convalescents as their “Wham Girl” where she played shortstop for the Ambrose team and was selected as the Denver Women’s Softball League’s outstanding player.

Throughout her life she lived athletically and enthusiastically in tennis, volleyball, golf, bowling, coaching little league baseball, water and snow skiing. She loved sports at all levels and encouraged her family to stay active at whatever they chose to do.

Together her and her husband of over 72 years, Bill, took their passion to the Senior Olympics where they played tennis and volleyball and won various levels throughout these competitive tournaments.

She loved going to the coast on every border to walk in the sand and dip her toes in the ocean waters.

She will forever be missed by all that knew her and loved her. She remains an inspiration to all of us to take life on with enthusiasm, enjoyment and above all to live our lives with our own “Zest for Life and living.”

May she forever rest in peace knowing she lived her life to the fullest.

I want to extend my sympathies to the family. I have sweet memories of Elaine from my childhood. I especially remember her laugh. Over the years my folks kept me up on the news of the Fagerguists even though I'd see her only a handful of times as an adult. I was truly blessed to see her this past summer when she attended my Dad's funeral. She was as sweet as I remembered.
