Obituary

Obituary for Everett Meredith

Sadly, Everett Meredith, Jr. died December 30, 2020. Everett was born on October 8, 1938 to Everett and Beatrice (Bird) Meredith. Due to circumstances, Everett was raised by his uncle and aunt, Morten “Buck” and Margaret Dunlevy.
Everett went by many names - Pork, Son, but most family and close friends called him Sonny. He graduated from Chartiers-Houston High School in Houston, PA, where he developed many talents. He sang in the school choir, participated in football and wrestling. Even so, he had plenty of time to get into mischief. Not surprising to those who were close to Pork.

Upon high school graduation, Everett joined the Navy in 1956 and was sent to Key West, Florida to become a Sonar Seaman. While working as a lifeguard at a public swimming pool, he met Joan Irene Willis. A romance soon followed and the couple eloped to Virginia to marry on July 9, 1958. After serving in the Navy, the couple moved to Colorado to pursue their life together in 1960. Shortly after arriving in Colorado, Everett was employed by Martin-Marietta, which at the time was a defense department contractor. Soon afterward, Everett and Joan welcomed a bouncing baby boy, Kristen.

Everett joined the Arvada (Colorado) Police Department in 1963, and in 1966, they welcomed Susan Joan Meredith, their lovely baby girl, to the family. Everett went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Regis University and have a long career in the police department, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1983.
Everett enjoyed hunting, reading, gardening, tinkering with ‘stuff’ and good whiskey. He spent many years as President of the Colorado Chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation. In early 2020, he attended a banquet held in his honor for his service to wildlife conservation.

Everett is survived by his wife Joan, his brother Ray Dunlevy and sister Carol Filipponi, his children Kris Meredith (Wendy) and Susie DiLoreto (Ted), 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, by a sister Barbara, and by twelve uncles and aunts.

Donations to the Alzheimers Association are greatly appreciated. Condolences may be sent to Aspen Mortuary, 6370 Union St., Arvada, CO 80004 or online: https://www.aspenmortuaries.com/obituary-listing

Pork was always great for a good laugh and we enjoyed watching Broncos football with him. Based on reading all the posts attributed to his kindness, he will have no problems in heaven, he will be making lots of friends. Everyone hopes they leave this kind of legacy.

Love, Rick and Tamera Ehrman

Everett was a Detective when I joined Arvada PD in 1968. I was a skinny 23 year old fresh out of the Navy. Over the years Pork was a good friend as well as a fellow officer. More memories than I have room to share. He was a good man. He will make a good Angel in heaven. Condolences to the family.

Everett was my first Lieutenant when I was hired
at the Arvada Police Dept. As the 5th woman hired by Arvada Police, he made me feel welcome and he always encouraged. He will be missed. Prayers to all of his family.
