Obituary for Jonathan Kristian Edward Craven

Jonathan Craven, 20, passed tragically on March 19, 2021 in Arvada, Colorado. Jonathan is survived by his beloved girlfriend of 8 years, Emily R. Berg, his parents, Kristina A. (Rosch) Craven and Charles R.J. Craven (Lisa J. Mitchell), his brother Charles R.S. Craven, his sister Julie A. Craven and his stepbrothers Jackson A. and Samuel D. Mitchell, his grandmothers, Cecilia R. (Giambrocco) Craven, and Paulette A. (Kaus) Rosch and a large loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jonathan grew up in Arvada and attended Hackberry Hill Elementary, Moore Middle School and Pomona, Lakewood and Brady High Schools due to some trouble with their “rules”.
Jonathan loved the outdoors and never missed a chance to spend time outside with his girl Emily, his sister Julie, his brother Charlie and always, his dog, Rex. Jonathan was a great storyteller and loved to sit and talk with his mom about their day. Oh, how he loved to tease her using his quick wit but always followed it up with “I love you, Mom” and one of his amazing hugs and smiles. His dad loved going out for pho every week with him when they could catch up and spend some real quality time together. The dinner was always entertaining, and his dad always came away proud and smiling. He loved hanging out with both of his grandpas, Don and Dick, and always enjoyed spending time with them talking about old and new cars, fishing, hunting and four wheeling. He doted on both his grandmothers and kept them endlessly entertained. Jonathan was a true Colorado kid, born and raised and it showed in where he chose to spend his time.
Jonathan always loved to figure things out for himself, even if it was the hard way. He never balked from a seemingly impossible task nor backed down from anything or anyone. Jonathan lived his life his way and that still gives his parents a great sense of pride.

Also known as Red, Ginger and Jon, Jonathan was a member of the Denver MiniBikes group and wrenching on these little machines was likely his very favorite thing to do. Jonathan was a masterful minibike builder, and his work was in high demand in this community. He boasted with pride at having the ”Fastest mini bike in Denver” and welcomed the opportunity to prove that at any given chance. He loved to go fast, and nothing ever scared him, as evidenced by his parent’s gray hair.

He was a mighty, mighty soul who lived his life wild and free and made every moment memorable. While often misunderstood, his true self revealed a kind, generous, amazingly intelligent, hardworking kid. He lived his life at full speed every minute. He played hard, he loved hard and he worked hard. He touched everyone he met and was hard to forget. He was always laughing and smiling or passionately arguing and he loved a good debate. While many were fooled by his appearance, to quickly found out that they were no match for his logical intelligence or wit.

Sending the Craven family lots of love. I had Jonathan and Emily in my fifth grade class together, as well as Charlie and Julie. Jonathan had a great sense of adventure and always had a smile. I often saw him working on cars and mini bikes at home when I drive by he would always wave when he saw me.
Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

We are praying for all of you. I worked with Jonathan when he was at Hackberry and remember how hard he worked on his writing and how he was serious and funny at the same time. Julie, Mikayla and I are sending you love and prayers.
