Obituary for Kristy Kay Mestdagh

On Saturday, June 22, 2019, Kristy Kay Mestdagh, loving wife, mother, “grammy,” sister, and friend passed away at the age of 62 of complications due to uterine cancer.
Kristy was born on May 28, 1957, in Davenport, Iowa to Amos and Patricia Claybaugh. She was raised in Greeley, Colorado where she attended University High School. She then attended University of Northern Colorado and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1979. On October 25th, 1986 Kristy married Steven Alan Mestdagh. Together, they raised two sons, Ian and Sean.

Kristy started her career at Laradon Hall where she worked as a case manager, instructor in the vocational training program, and volunteered in the Special Olympics program. While there, she began working at Dairy Queen part time, and she met her future husband Steven. She then briefly worked at Adult Care Management before beginning her 21-year career at Argus Home Health. At Argus, she started out in human resources, working her way up to Vice President of Human Capital, and helping to start the Brain Injury Independent Skills Living Program. In 2017, Kristy became an enrollment specialist at Senior Resource Center, where she worked until the end of this May.

Kristy loved people, collected friends, and never met a stranger. She was a mom first and foremost. She loved watching her boys play sports, and even though she did not always understand the intricacies of the game, was never afraid to coach them up when they did something wrong. She loved every holiday of the year and was an avid decorator of each and every one. Kristy was never shy about breaking out the snowmen early to bring in the season. You would often find her seeking out the hidden treasures on 50% off Saturdays at Goodwill or at a good Kohls sale-- adding to her ever-expanding collection of holiday décor, watch bands, or eyeglasses. She loved to laugh and joke even at her own expense. Often, she would find herself two steps behind in a conversation, but definitely made an impact once she caught up. Kristy often talked to herself, and said that she did so because sometimes she was the only one who would listen and she needed expert advice. She always had a positive, calming aura about her, and knew how to make someone feel comfortable in any interaction. Her spirit will be with us all forever.

Kristy was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Patricia Claybaugh. She is survived by her husband Steven, her two sons Ian and Sean, Ian’s wife Katrina, her siblings Donna and Norm, her nieces Erin and Courtney and their families, and will be missed most of all by her granddaughter Makaylee.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, July 1st, 2019 at Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church 9180 West 38th Av., Wheat Ridge, CO at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Senior Resource Center and Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church.
Kristy always loved the Outdoor Worship area and per her wishes the service will be held outside, rain or shine.

GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me."

You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
