Obituary

Obituary for Larry Neevel

March 9th, 2020, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Larry Rutgers Neevel went home! Larry was 82, surrounded by family, when his long battle with cancer finally ended. What a WARRIOR!

Born April 18th 1937 ,in Fond Du Lac, WI to Paul (dec.) and Elizabeth Grace Neevel (dec.). Larry and younger brother Jerry (m. Bonnie) moved to Waupun WI to raise their family.

Larry was 1 of 10 seniors to join the Air Force upon his graduation from Waupun HS. He served his country proudly for 4 years and has remained a true Patriot for America and has raised his flag proudly ever since!

Larry’s youngest brother Paul (m. Jane) joined the family in 1962 when his father Paul Sr. was remarried to Harriet Neevel (dec.).

Larry married Gayle (Bramer) in 1957 and moved to Conifer Colorado in 1967 where they raised their 3 children, Larry Jr. (dec.), Steve (m. Kathi) and Lisa (m. Philip).

After 31 years as a pipe-fitter with Public Service (Excel Energy) Larry retired. He spent the rest of his days enjoying the outdoors, bowling, volunteering for his community and his family.

His love of music started at a young age when he decided to play the drums. From school marching bands, to the AF Military band, to the many different bands throughout the years, his passion for music was one of many legacy’s he gave to his family.

A recent writing was found asking what he’d like his family to remember him for? His answer, “ My kindness, understanding and love for them”. His FAMILY was his biggest blessing of ALL!

Larry is survived by his wife Gayle, his 2 children Steve and Lisa, his grandchildren Roxanne (m. Nathan), Shane, and Keeley (m. Tyler), and his 2 great-grandchildren Augustine and Penelope and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A wonderful guy. Larry was the real deal. There are people you remember in life. Larry was one of those. I remember him well from when we were neighbors in the mountains 25 years ago. Rest In Peace my dear friend.

Thank you Tom for your kind words. Dad spoke quite fondly of his time in the service and all the great guys he met and served with. Please share any other stories you may have. Were you part of the 10 Seniors that all joined up together?
