Luella Penner, 93, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 9, 2019.

Luella was born on June 10, 1925, Heil, North Dakota to Louie and Freda Kirschman. She attended rural school through the 8th grade. She was a middle child of 11 children. She lived the first 12 years of her life in a sod house on a farm with her family near New Leipzig, North Dakota. Her family then moved to a farm near Heil, ND. At age 16, she moved with her parents to Scottsbluff, Nebraska. At age 17, on October 3, 1942, Luella married Rudolph (Rudy) Klaus and lived on a farm near Scottsbluff, NE. They were faithful members of the German Assembly of God Church, and she loved to sing the German choruses and hymns. To this union, two children were born, Darlene Luella Klaus (10/02/43) and David Rudy Klaus (1/25/49)

Tragically, on 12/20/51, Luella's husband, Rudy & his father, Henry Klaus were killed in a car accident. Luella was now a widow at age 27 with two children. She met Don Penner in her brother, Egon Kirschman's church in Aurora, NE. She married Don Penner on February 8, 1953. To this union, one daughter, Gayla Marie Penner (3/22/61), was born.

In spite of the heartaches she faced in life, she kept her faith strong in her Lord and Savior, and passed that heritage on to her children. She enjoyed opening up her home at anytime to warm North Dakota hospitality. She loved hugs and smiling faces. She loved laughing heartily with her sisters and mom and speaking German with her family and relatives. She was an infamous Scrabble player and an amazing seamstress. She loved singing at anytime especially in church. She did love to travel and always loved going back to North Dakota.

Luella is survived by her two daughters, Darlene (Rex) Herndon and Gayla (Keith) Ruckhaus. She was blessed with four grandchildren; Roxanne Oxley, Valerie Herndon, Benjamin Ruckhaus, Manya Ruckhaus, and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Andrea and Abby Oxley. She is also survived by one Brother, Marvin Kirschman (age 85) of Tampa, FL.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Freda Kirschman, seven brothers, Clarence, Egon, Elmer, David, Willard, Wilmer, and James Kirschman; two sisters, Della Christman and Irene Kisser; her husband, Rudy Klaus and son, David Klaus; her husband, Don Penner, and one granddaughter, Roxanne Oxley (Herndon)

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be given to (non-profit organization for disability assistance providing wheelchairs and Bibles around the world). Joni's radio broadcast and devotional books were Mom's favorite. Memorials can also be sent to Darlene or Gayla, which will then be forwarded to Joni and Friends.

I just wanted you to know how much Luella meant to me. and to many of us at Calvary Church. Every summer that I knew her, when we were doing registration for classes for "Over the Teacup" Bible Study ; before Luella signed up she would ask me what I was teaching so she was in my class no matter what we studied. She was faithful to come every time and loved to share her stories. We were all blessed by them. I know, Darlene came with her once. We enjoyed her visit too. One year before Christmas she told me Gayla and her family wanted to go skiing at Christmas. I said tell them to go as you are invited to our home for Christmas Dinner. My daughter and family just loved her. She brought Jell-O and that pleased my grandsons. Then we played Quiller which is a spelling game and because she had played scrabble she won the game. What fun we had!! We never forgot that Christmas. She has been missed at Bible study for a few years now.

Aunt Luella was a dear soul, always smiling and always have my sister Bonnie and I a kiss when we visited her in Gering, Nebraska. She was dealy lived by my dad Wil Kirschman, Luella's younger brother. Evertime they would get together they would first hug, give a brief kiss than they would smile, laugh and speak briefly in German. They would have continuous laughter throughout the house or anywhere everywhere they ever met weather it be family visits, a brief vacation, or any outings. They would constantly play a game of scrabble and than if the other sisters or brothers played there was lots of conversation and laugher. I will never forget the time going to Colorado with my cousins David,Gayla, Darlene, Roxie, and Val we hiked up the mountain together and than we came down Luella was smiling and said did you have enough anyone lightheaded? We all laughed. I cherise all those fond memories with Aunt Luella and with my cousins. She was not only my dads older sister, but like another mom to my dad because there were almost 12 in the family. My dad was almost 17 yrs younger. They had similar personalities. Always giving to people, always caring, very humble and family always came first, always laughing or making you laugh, younwould never have a dry eye around them from laughter to tears. They both were great listeners and they were always there to help you. They had very similarities passed down from their mother Frida Kirschman, my grandmother bless her soul. May Aunt Luella rest now in peace with all those precious Kirschman souls and her own family members, her husbands, and grandfather. Father bless her and welcome her in your almighty arms singing into heaven. We love you Aunt Luella. Along with your two sisters Della and Irene, and all your brothers, and my dad Wil. Bless you, prayersanx God be with you! Love, niece Brenda Kirschman
