Obituary for Patricia Mabel Medina-Lara

Patricia Mabel Medina-Lara, age 58, of Thornton, Colorado, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021. She is survived by her children, Macario (Brittany), Gabriel Eugenio (Charity), and Josiah; Brother, Gerald and Noberto (Diana); Aunt, Saida; Grandchildren, Gabriel Elijah, Dominik, Nayeli, Lilly, Gabrielle, and Leia; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Mike Lara Jr.; father and mother, William and Corine Medina; brothers, John and Steve Medina; and granddaughter, Uriyah Aguilar.

Patricia “Patty” Medina-Lara was born on July 4, 1963 at Fort Riley located in Junction City, Kansas and eventually moved to the Denver area at a young age. Patty was a wonderful sister, mother, aunt and grandmother. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and often hosted dinners where her traditional cooking was celebrated. Anyone who knew Patty was touched by her kindness, humor, and generosity. She could be counted on to help in a time of need and was often sought after for a shoulder to cry on. Patty was a devoted peacemaker for her family and always a source of positivity regardless of the circumstances. She was a patriot and a true American, which one could only expect after learning she was born on America’s Independence Day! Most importantly, she was loved by everyone she encountered, and you couldn’t help but smile when you saw her walking your way.

Patty was authentic, lived her life unapologetically, and resilient. She was a diligent and hardworking employee at the Arapahoe County Court for 15 years, where she sought to make a difference in her community. Patty volunteered and took great pride in her contributions to the HOTE committee at the 18th Judicial District Court, which at times lead to her family members being “volentold” to help with the completion of projects. Colleagues at Arapahoe County Courthouse were a family away from home. Many admired her caring nature and calming presence, proclaiming to give more of themselves like she did. Patty had a unique connection with each person she came to know, always leaving a lasting impression.

Services will be held at Abundant Life Community Church on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 11:00am. If you have the desire to lift others up or have a strong faith like Patricia, she would encourage donations to be made to K-LOVE, an organization she felt strongly about.
