Obituary

Obituary for Richard Allen Piper

Richard Piper was born in Wray, CO, to Edwin and Lola Piper.
Richard lived in several places while growing up, as his father worked as a sheet metal mechanic and ultimately was a school principal and superintendent in eastern Colorado. Richard graduated high school in Fleming, CO, and earned a bachelor’s degree in agronomy from Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University) in Fort Collins, CO. He married Mary Ann in September 1955 to whom he was married for 58 years. They raised two sons Michael and Steven. They lived in Colorado Springs, CO, Fort Morgan, CO, Grand Island, NE, and Saint George, UT, before moving to Arvada, CO, in 1966 where they lived their remaining days.
Richard worked for the Department of Interior, travelling throughout the western United States and the world, until his retirement in 1989. He had a passion for sports cars.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Edwin and his mother Lola, his brother Edwin Piper Jr., his sister Gloria Elaine, and his wife Mary Ann. Richard is survived by 2 sons and their spouses, Michael and Karen Piper; Steven and Kathryn Piper; 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren along with other family and friends whom were blessed to know him.

A graveside service will be held April 7 at the Arvada Cemetery and is limited to the immediate family. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to: Collier Hospice, 3210 N. Lutheran Pkwy, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033; (303) 425-8000.
