Obituary for Rodney Frank Schmalhaus Sr.

Rodney Schmalhaus Sr. of Lochbuie, passed away August 29, 2019 after a short battle
with cancer at home with his daughters by his side.
His wife of 59 years Eleanor Schmalhaus, passed away August 29, 2017. They choose
the same day within hours of each other to be reunited in heaven. Their love was eternal.
Survivors include Renee’ and Mike Campbell of Hudson; Rodney Jr. and Sharon, of Pea
Ridge, Ark.; Robi and Troy Valder, of Lakewood; grandchildren Jasmine and Mike Shea of
Laguna Niguel, Calif; Monte Schmalhaus of Chicago, Ill.; Trevor Valder of Golden; Tanner
Valder of Lakewood.
.Rod served in the US Air Force from 1950-1954.He had earned the rank of Staff
Sergeant. Most of his tour was spent overseas as an AF Security Officer. His unit of assignment
was 3909th Air Base Group, 3913th Air Base Squadron, Royal Air Force Station Bassingbourn
England. He served during the Korean war era and was honorably discharged with the
following service medals:
Meritorious service medal
AF Good Conduct Medal
Korean Service Medal
AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon
USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon
Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon
AF Basic Training Ribbon
Article 5 Nato Active Endeavour Ribbon
Rod was the type of man who cared for all. He would do anything for anyone close to his
heart. His smile was contagious. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother,
cousin and friend. A few of his favorite hobbies were going to grandkids sporting events, going
to the casino with Mom “the Queen”, reading, boxing, model cars and restoring old cars.
