Obituary

Obituary for Susan Marie Blatter

AT THE REQUEST OF THE FAMILY PLEASE DO NOT SEND FLOWERS. TO HONOR SUSAN THE FAMILY HAS LISTED WAYS THAT YOU CAN HONOR HER MEMORY AT THE END OF THIS OBITUARY!

Susan Marie Blatter, age 61, was called home on February 6, 2021, after a long four years of courageously battling pancreatic cancer. She fought harder than most, with a never-ending positive attitude and constant smile, and volunteered in many medical studies that will help others in their pursuit of overcoming this terrible disease. She maintained her faith in God and Jesus throughout her life and often spoke of her faith in the path God had chosen for her.
Susan was born in Denver, Colorado on October 19, 1959 and was chosen by her loving parents Ilene M Bamford (Dunn/Olson) and Edward Andrew Olson. She was an excellent student in Jefferson County Schools and Arvada West High School before obtaining her undergraduate degree in education from the University of Colorado (Go Buffs!) and later her Master’s in education from the University of Northern Colorado.
She married her loving husband of 35 years, Ken Blatter, on May 25, 1985, following a short nine month courtship. Despite the many well-meaning jokes from friends and family regarding their quick marriage, Ken and Susan waited three years to welcome their first daughter Katie in 1988 followed by their second daughter Jamie in 1991.
Susan was an educator through and through and dedicated her career to helping and teaching others, not only in school curriculum but also in life. Although she excelled as a teacher of various elementary grades (primarily kindergarten), a preschool administrator and a Title I teacher, she was most proud of her relationships. It was not uncommon for her former students and colleagues to keep in touch with her, seek advice from her or tell her how much of an impact she had on their lives.
Outside the classroom Susan enjoyed crafting, gardening, book club and most of all spending time with her friends and family. She had a knack for knowing what someone needed and showing up at just the right moment with a comforting hug, word of advice, or witty comeback, depending on the mood. She was a treasured confidant, an excellent advice-giver and a constant comfort to all those who knew her.
Susan was preceded in death by her father Edward A Olson and mother Ilene M Bamford (Dunn/Olson). She is survived by her loving husband Ken Blatter, her caring sister Christina Blake and her kind step father Robert Bamford, as well as her two daughters and their husbands Katie and Imanibom Etukeren and Jamie and Oscar Valdez. She will be deeply missed by her three grandchildren Evelyn and Emmie Valdez and Andikan Etukeren, who could always count on their Mimi to answer any and all FaceTime calls. She will be watching over her fourth grandchild until she makes her arrival in June.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) in Susan’s honor to further her legacy of helping others, especially those facing the challenges of fighting this disease. Another way to honor Susan’s memory would be to send a donation (money or school supplies) to Ken or Jamie to purchase school supplies that will be distributed to the schools she taught at.
