Winifred LaRayne Jergensen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado at the age of 95 – thirty-three days shy of her 96th birthday.
Winnie is survived by her children, Jerry Jergensen, wife Judith; Susie Ryan, husband Jim; and Rick Jergensen, wife Tita. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Roy Jergensen, and baby son John Edward.
Winnie was born on September 23, 1922, in Denver, Colorado to Samuel and Helen Cavnar. She attended Manual Training High School in Denver until 1941 and completed her GED in 1965. On June 7, 1941, she married the love of her life, Ivan Jergensen in Goodland, Kansas. Across nearly 63 years of marriage, the family welcomed 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
A loving homemaker, dedicated churchgoer, active member of several clubs and organizations, community volunteer, avid collector, and world-traveler, Winnie embodied love and profoundly touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Viewing will take place Tuesday evening, August 28, 2018, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Aspen Mortuaries, 6370 Union Street, Arvada, CO 80004. Interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery Wednesday, August 29, at 10:00 AM (procession to Ft. Logan leaves Aspen Mortuaries promptly at 9:00 AM). The celebration to honor Winnie’s life will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Messiah Community Church, 1750 Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80220. Reception immediately following at Winnie’s longtime home, 6000 Forest Drive, Commerce City, CO 80022. Donations in Winnie’s memory can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
